Needlework at Mount Vernon: Treasures of the Collection and New Acquisition
October 6, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Associate Curator Amanda Isaac will discuss the historical importance of needlework at Mount Vernon in the 18th century and share images of works by Martha Washington and her granddaughter Eleanor Parke Custis Lewis, British artist Ellen Sharples, and many yet to be discovered women, whose surviving work attests to their varied lives. She will also showcase recent acquisitions, including 19th century samplers and silk embroidery that creatively incorporate images of Mount Vernon and the Washingtons.
