April 18, 2022 - Godfrey Miller Center awarded $10,000 technology grant from the Newton B. Shingleton Trust.

This grant will be used to expand and renew the technology education program at Godfrey Miller Center. The program will create an individual-centered and hands-on learning environment, to provide inclusive and relevant technology training for older adults in the greater Winchester area.

Many older adults have stayed at home alone since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. For some, this has led to social isolation, difficulties accessing healthcare, and disconnection from vital information and services. Our goal is for our participants to feel more confidence and less anxiety when they use digital technologies in order to reduce the negative impacts of isolation and disconnectedness on mental and physical health.

Not all older adults have the same access or experience using digital technology. Godfrey Miller Center’s program is designed to expand inclusivity by providing participants with access to computers, other technological tools, and training regardless of financial status or previous experience. Additionally, the program will increase the relevance of new technologies with older adults by teaching participants how to use smartphones, computers, and the internet to access resources including telehealth, banking websites, and staying in touch with loved ones.
